October 2016 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The October Previews catalog arrived on Wednesday so as I read through it I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in December of 2016. If there’s anything that you’d like, please try and let me know by the twenty first of this month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. (Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you.)

This month the theme is Prose to Panels celebrating mainstream authors whose works have come to comic shops in the form of serialized comics or graphic novels. If you’d like to follow along or see some images of covers and artwork you can go to www.PreviewsWorld.com and there are other articles at www.Scoop.PreviewsWorld.com, or you could sign up for the newsletter and maybe win prizes in the weekly giveaways at www.PreviewsWorld.com/subscribe.

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN (original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

MARVEL: Although the current Civil War II cross over series won’t ship the final issue until the end of December the next big event will begin two weeks earlier, IVX #1 of 6. DOCTOR STRANGE/PUNISHER: MAGIC BULLETS #1 of 4 is by John Barber with art by Andrea Broccardo and Jason Muhr. The GWENPOOL HOLIDAY SPECIAL: MERRY MIX-UP is sixty four pages of short stories by lots of creators. (Just to clarify, I put the little hearts alongside books that I suspect will be good and I base that on the creators assigned to the title. There are a lot of creators here that I’m unfamiliar with.) I feel that the best titles at Marvel these days are the ones that often aren’t involved in the big events but are solidly written by top creators. Jason Aaron’s work on THE MIGHTY THOR #14, DOCTOR STRANGE #15 and THE UNWORTHY THOR #2 of 5, Nick Spencer’s work on CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON #16 and CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #8, Brian Michael Bendis’ work on SPIDER-MAN #11, Jeff Lemire’s THANOS #2, OLD MAN LOGAN #15 and MOON KNIGHT #9, Becky Cloonan’s PUNISHER #8, James Robinson’s SQUADRON SUPREME #14, Waid and Samnee’s BLACK WIDOW #9 and Slott and Allred’s SILVER SURFER #10, just nominated for an Eisner but facing cancellation are all books that I’d recommend to the many Marvel fans that have expressed displeasure with the publisher’s current direction.
