November 2017 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The November Previews catalog arrived on Wednesday, October twenty fifth. (I’ll do my best to get this to you by the first of November.) These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in January of 2018. I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. If there’s anything that you’d like, please try to let me know by the twenty first of the month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. (Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you.)

The theme is ‘Sci-Fi & Fantasy’ this month so there will be comics and collections related to science fiction and fantasy, new titles and old. If you’d like more information or would like to see some images of covers and artwork you can go to
and there are other articles at, or you could sign up for the newsletter and maybe win prizes in the weekly giveaways at

An offering that comes as a big and pleasant surprise to me is RICHARD STARK’S PARKER: SLAYGROUND TP, the fourth and, I suspect final adaptation from the late, great Darwyn Cooke. The late Donald E. Westlake, winner of the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award wrote the ‘Parker’ novels under the pseudonym Richard Stark, noir stories where the main character is the criminal. Darwyn loved these stories so much that he committed to adapt one per year, increasing the interest enough so that the long out of print books are now available again; I didn’t know he had finished this one before his untimely passing but I’m glad he did! Another final gift from one of the late greats comes with FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE #4 OF 4, an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein by Steve (30 Days of Night) Niles with gorgeous black and white art by Bernie Wrightson! These have shipped very slowly but, if you missed the first three those will be collected in a sixty four page special for under eight dollars as the FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE TRIO.

Each catalog I try to pick what I think might be the best release of the month and there are SO many deserving titles this month! I’m excited about the SWAMP THING WINTER SPECIAL and the return of Terry Moore’s STRANGERS IN PARADISE XXV #1. DAYS OF HATE #1 OF 12 from Image sounds great and I’m thrilled that there’s one more Darwyn Cooke book to look forward to: RICHARD STARK’S PARKER: SLAYGROUND TP but when all is said and done January’s Pick of the Month, the best book arriving in January, I predict will be the TERRIFICS #1 by Jeff Lemire; DC‘s version of the Fantastic Four (since Marvel isn’t using it).

I try my best to drop this in your mail box at midnight on the first of the month. After this week’s Halloween Comic Fest and benefit for Primavera (which raised $1,025.00; thank you all!) I fell a bit behind. I apologize for being almost a day late. But I’m SO grateful for all of your support, especially in the aftermath of one of the quarterly benefits. Thank you all so much for keeping the lights on and going above and beyond, supporting the great non profits we have who take care of our less fortunate friends and neighbors. I’m humbled and blessed.

    See you soon!

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN (original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

If you’d prefer not to receive this in the future please respond with UNSUBSCRIBE; I’m not trying to spam you! I only send this to subscription customers or those who request it. (I won’t be insulted at all if you’d like to discontinue. When I proofread it each month I know first-hand how tedious it can be.)
