May 2018 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The April Previews catalog arrived on Wednesday, March twenty eighth (I’ll do my best to get this to you as soon as possible.) These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in June of 2018. I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. If there’s anything that you’d like, please try to let me know by the twenty first of the month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you. And if it’s past the twenty first there’s still a very good chance that I’ll be able to place your order and still get the books you want.

Last month I mentioned that the Previews catalog had changed format. Boom! Studios and Dynamite Entertainment were added as premier publishers (along with Dark Horse, DC, IDW, Image and Marvel) and manga titles are now listed separately at the end of the comic listings. And they moved all the toys, games, apparel and trading cards to the back of the catalog in a flip book format. Apparently, there’s another change that wasn’t evident last month: one of the seven premier publishers will get to jump to the front of the book each month on a rotating basis with Image leading the pack this time.

On Saturday, the Fifth of May I’ll be hosting the annual Free Comic Book Day event, a benefit and fundraiser for Tucson’s wonderful YOUTH ON THEIR OWN organization that provides food and shelter for our homeless teens who are determined to graduate high school. (You can see the art, follow the event and place bids at the event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1968356183480422/)

There will be seven artists here generously donating their time and talent to provide free sketches, there will be a One Dollar and a Five Dollar Raffle with graphic novels, action figures and more as prizes, there will be a Silent Auction, already in progress for original art, rare and signed collectibles and more and, of course each attendee can choose four Free Comics from the selection provided. There are fifty choices for 2018 plus I’ve added another couple dozen titles from the shops’ stock. The event will run all day, from Ten AM until Five PM. The bidding for the Silent Auction will close at Four Thirty PM when we start drawing the winning raffle tickets and ALL proceeds will benefit Youth on Their Own. I hope that you’ll all be able to make it and show your support on this busy weekend.

I am so grateful for all your support, the years of friendship and your orders and subscriptions that keep the lights on and the rent paid. Thank you all!

Peace,

Charlie

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN(original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

If you’d prefer not to receive this in the future, please respond with UNSUBSCRIBE; I’m not trying to spam you! I only send this to subscription customers or those who request it. (I won’t be insulted at all if you’d like to discontinue. When I proofread it each month I know first-hand how tedious it can be. Thank you.)
