March 2016 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The March Previews catalog is sitting on the desk at the shop as always, so as I read through it I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in May of 2016. If there’s anything that you’d like please try and let me know by the twenty first of this month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you. A key to some of the codes and abbreviations used is at the bottom of the newsletter.)

The catalog’s theme this month is ‘Women in Comics’ celebrating the many women who work within the industry and community so expect a lot of much appreciated focus on the women creators in this month’s Previews catalog!

DARK HORSE: As the ‘Mignola-verse’ continues to expand exponentially John Arcudi writes and Tonci Zonjic illustrates LOBSTER JOHNSON: METAL MONSTERS OF MIDTOWN #1 OF 3 with midtown New York under attack while Mike Mignola himself writes and illustrates HELLBOY IN HELL #9 and there’s also ABE SAPIEN #33, BALTIMORE: EMPTY GRAVES #2 OF 5 and JOE GOLEM: OCCULT DETECTIVE, VOL. 1: THE RAT CATCHER AND THE SUNKEN DEAD HC.     You’ve probably heard something about the ‘Rebirth‘ going on at DC and hopefully you haven’t taken any of the gossip to heart; it is NOT a reboot! After 75 years, DC did a reboot in 2011 known as the New 52; many of those titles reach their fifty second issues in June. And a year ago they did DC You with most of those titles reaching issue twelve in April. If you recall, Geoff Johns has done several Rebirth series even before the New 52 in an effort to revitalize Flash, Green Lantern and others. Some of the changes coming include returning to legacy numbering for the Action Comics and Detective Comics series’ as they’ll both be reaching their thousandth issues in the coming year, beginning publishing their most popular titles twice per month, and an across the board price decrease with all of their books reverting to the $2.99 cover price. I see these as positive changes and I have faith that these regular tweaks of their universe will bring about better stories as they have in the past.

The ‘Super League’ story continues through BATMAN SUPERMAN #32, ACTION COMICS #52, SUPERMAN WONDER WOMAN #29 and concludes in SUPERMAN #52. I know you’re wondering who Scott Snyder will pass the Cowl to after his five years on the title; BATMAN #52 is written by James Tynion IV, a past student of Snyder’s, and the art will be by Rafael (American Vampire) Albuquerque.
