July 2019 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The July Previews catalog arrived on Wednesday, June twenty sixth. I’ll do my best to get this to you as soon as possible. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in September of 2019. I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. If there’s anything that you’d like, please try to let me know by the twenty first of the month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you. And, especially with DC, if you’d like a particular cover let me know and I’ll make it happen. And if it’s past the twenty first there’s still a very good chance that I’ll be able to place your order and still get the books you want.

Before I get started on the publishers I’d like to point out that this is the month that I order the comics that I’ll be giving away on Saturday, the twenty sixth of October (and, of course we’ll have a big event with raffles, a silent auction and artists on hand providing free sketches to raise money for those beautiful bald children of the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital) when we celebrate Halloween Comic Fest 2019. There are twenty full sized comics offered, priced between twenty five and thirty five cents each and there are eleven half sized comics that arrive in bundles of twenty five copies each and they’re priced at $3.25 each. These are the prices offered to retailers but I will happily sell them to you at my cost in the interest of getting kids to read and so kids can get something other than sweets when they’re trick or treating so if you’d like to give these away too, in your home, work or classroom please stop by, look at the titles offered and place your orders before the twenty first of July and I will have those for you by the second week of October. Okay, let’s get to it.

Each month I try to choose the best offering in the catalog. Mainstream contenders are SFSX #1 and BATTLEPUG #1 from Image, EVERYTHING #1 from Dark Horse, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES: MILLENNIUM #1 OF 2 and the INFERIOR FIVE #1 OF 12 from DC, SPIDER-MAN #1 OF 5, KING THOR #1 OF 4 and the NEW MUTANTS: WAR CHILDREN #1 one shot from Marvel and ARCHIE: 1955 #1 OF 5 from Archie Comics. Outside of the mainstream there’s SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #1 OF 5 from Boom! Studios, VAMPIRE STATE BUILDING #1 from Ablaze, LLC, Jeff Lemire’s FROGCATHER HC from Gallery 13, Chris Ware’s RUSTY BROWN HC from Pantheon Books, Craig Thompson’s GINSENG ROOTS #1 from Uncivilized Books and the CATS OF TEH LOVRE HC manga from Viz Media. I’m anxious to read all of these but I think the one that will resonate with the most customers and fans in September, the Pick of the Month will be Stjepan Šejić’s HARLEEN #1 OF 3 from DC’s Black Label imprint.

Thank you all for your many years of friendship, orders and support! The next event will be the Bubba Patrol Signing/Sketch/Fundraiser on Saturday, the thirteenth of July from Noon until Two PM so be sure to mark your calendars and show your support for Mr. John Anthony Chihak Soltero, and then, on the third of August we’ll be having a benefit for Youth On Their Own all day, details to follow. See you in the funny books!

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN(original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

If you’d prefer not to receive this in the future, please respond with UNSUBSCRIBE; I’m not trying to spam you! I only send this to subscription customers or those who request it. (I won’t be insulted at all if you’d like to discontinue. When I proofread it each month I know first-hand how tedious it can be. Thank you.)
