July 2017 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The July Previews catalog arrived on Wednesday, June twenty seventh (so please forgive me if this doesn’t show up in your mail box at midnight on the first; I’ll get it to you as soon as I’ve read through it). I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in September of 2017. If there’s anything that you’d like, please try and let me know by the twenty first of this month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. (Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you.)

Educators, this is the month that I place orders for the comics that I’ll be giving away for Halloween, the annual Halloween Comic Fest. Full size comics are usually priced at twenty to forty cents each and half sized comics are sold in bundles of twenty copies are priced under five dollars each. They’re scheduled to arrive between the twenty seventh of September and the fourth of October. I’m happy to order these for you and sell them to you at my cost. And, consequently the theme of this months’ catalog is Halloween, so there are a lot of horror and monster type collections being reoffered. Yes, it seems early, but this is the time to order these things if we’re going to have them on hand in September. If you’d like more information or would like to see some images of covers and artwork you can go to www.PreviewsWorld.com and there are other articles at www.Scoop.PreviewsWorld.com, or you could sign up for the newsletter and maybe win prizes in the weekly giveaways at www.PreviewsWorld.com/subscribe.

MARVEL: This is the big relaunch/reboot (although there have been several and Marvel staunchly denies that it’s a ‘reboot’ or a ‘rebirth’) and it will begin the way the Distinguished Competition began their’s in March of last year with a one shot. While the DC Rebirth one shot was eighty pages priced under three bucks theirs will be MARVEL LEGACY #1 and, although it’s sixty-four pages priced under six dollars it’s written by Jason Aaron who won the Eisner Award last year as the top writer and the art is by Esad (Secret Wars) Ribic. The first title will be RUNAWAYS #1, a great team created by BK (Saga) Vaughan, this will be written by popular young adult fiction author Rainbow Rowell with artist Kris Anka.     I try to pick the best title of the month, and it’s always difficult; beginning this month I’m going to try and choose one comic and one collection. A lot of contenders this month. In comics there’s the five ‘Dark Nights’
one shots and ‘The Oz Effect’ story from DC, there’s the new STAR WARS ADVENTURES #1 from IDW, there’s the new KINGSMAN: RED DIAMOND #1 from Image, Marvel of course has their MARVEL LEGACY #1 as well as the JOURNEY TO STAR WARS-LAST JEDI: CAPTAIN PHASMA #1 OF 4 and RUNAWAYS #1 plus JOHN WICK #1 from Dynamite but for July’s Pick of the Month I’m going to choose DARK ARK #1 from Cullen Bunn at Aftershock Comics. Collected contenders include the BEST WISHES HC from Mike Richardson and Paul Chadwick at Dark Horse, the STARSTRUCK: OLD PROLDIERS NEVER DIE HC from IDW, the GODDAMNED OVERSIZE ‘BEFORE THE FLOOD’ HC from Image and the all age BOLIVAR HC from Archaia but I think that the best and most popular collection for July will be the WALKING DEAD: HERE’S NEGAN HC.

It’s been a crazy month; the new air conditioning units will be installed in mid-July in time for the August fifth EMERGE BENEFIT which will feature NINE talented artists providing free sketches (so far), a One Dollar Raffle to win graphic novels and action figures, a Five Dollar Raffle for bigger ticket items, a Silent Auction for original artwork, rare collectibles and autographed items. Kevin Smith stopped by last week and autographed some Jay & Silent Bob figures and you could win those and more, all proceeds to benefit EMERGE: CENTER AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE so I hope to see you all there. Although the lack of air conditioning caused a cancelation this month, we’ll be resuming the monthly KID’S CRAFT EVENT on Saturday, the twenty-ninth of July; from Ten AM until Twelve Noon, stop by with your children, ages three and up, and we’ll provide the materials and instruction and you take home your craft, a different one each month!

And, finally I’d like to thank you all for your support. There have been the expected bumps in the road with moving into the new and permanent location but the shop is coming together with lots of plans for changes and improvements in the future. By the end of the year I hope to have a comfortable reading area for planned book clubs as well as an expanded kids’ area, and it’s your friendship, word of mouth promotion, subscriptions and support that makes it all happen and keeps the lights on here. I’m grateful, humbled and indebted; thank you all!

    Peace,

    Charlie

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN (original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and ♥ (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

If you’d prefer not to receive this in the future please respond with UNSUBSCRIBE; I’m not trying to spam you! I only send this to subscription customers or those who request it. (I won’t be insulted at all if you’d like to discontinue. When I proofread it each month I know first-hand how tedious it can be.)
