January 2016 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The January Previews catalog is sitting on the desk at the shop as always, so as I read through it I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in March of 2016. If there’s anything that you’d like please try and let me know by the twenty first of this month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you.

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN (original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and(to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

The catalog’s theme this month is ‘How to Draw’ so expect a lot of DIY type publication listings. It’s also January so we’re being offered the comics that will be given away on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, the fifteenth annual event scheduled for the seventh of May, 2016. I’ll be hosting a charity benefit that day, of course, the beneficiary being the wonderful folks at Primavera, but we’ll talk more about that as it approaches. (I’m currently setting up the 6th of February event to benefit Emerge.)

Anyone who shares our love of comics and who would like to have some of the Free Comic Book Day offerings to share with your friends, co-workers, students or family members, just let me know (soon) and I will order them for you and sell them to you at my cost.

Each month I try to showcase one comic as the Pick of the Month and for January 2016, if it was just Marvel I’d pick the new BLACK WIDOW series, if it was just IDW I’d choose 3 DEVILS #1 OF 4, if it was just DC it would be BATMAN #50, and there are several non-fiction books that would be contenders if it was just the independent titles, but, as often happens I’m torn between two Image titles; CIRCUIT BREAKER #1 OF 5 looks like it will be great but, being a big fan of Jimmy Robinson’s work I have to choose POWER LINES #1 OF 6 as January’s best.

And once again we’ve reached the end of the comic section of the latest Previews catalog. There are also sections of books, magazines, games, apparel, statues, action figures, novelties, trading cards and lots more so feel free to look through the catalog next time you stop by if you’re so inclined; I’m happy to order whatever strikes your fancy.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support, for your orders and mostly for your friendship. One of the great pleasures for me is getting to know each of you and your families and it’s an honor to share your reading interests and to be trusted to keep your collections complete. I wish you all the happiest and most prosperous New Year that you wish for yourself. Thank you! See you soon!

    Peace,

    Charlie
