August 2016 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The August Previews catalog has just arrived today so as I read through it I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in October of 2016. If there’s anything that you’d like please try and let me know by the twenty first of this month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. (Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you.)

This month the theme is Science Fiction & Fantasy so expect a lot of new series’ as well as re-listings of older series from this genre. And if you’d like to follow along or see some images of covers and artwork you can go to and there are other articles at, or you could sign up for the newsletter and maybe win prizes in the weekly giveaways at

And the first four issue story is collected in PENNY DREADFUL, VOL. 1 TP. VALIANT offers a new stand alone event written by Jeff (Moon Knight, Old Man Logan) Lemire with art by Doug Braithwaite titled BLOODSHOT, U.S.A #1 OF 4 as Project Rising Spirit has developed an airborne nanite dispersion prototype and a machine-made pathogen that can hard wire every human with the same technology that created Bloodshot. VIZ MEDIA‘s
SUPER MARIO ADVENTURES GN collects comics that originally ran in Nintendo Power magazine in 1992-1993. SPIRIT HUNTERS #1 OF 12 is a new series by Ralph Tedesco and Joe Brusha from ZENESCOPE and that’s the last publisher in this months’ catalog. There are other sections with books, magazines, apparel, imported toys, games, etc. so if you’re interested look through the catalog; I’m happy to order anything that you’d like.

And every month I pick a title that I feel will be the best book of the month and for the titles scheduled to ship in October my Pick of the Month is MOONSHINE #1 from Azzarello and Risso at IMAGE although REBORN #1, CANNIBAL #1 and GREEN VALLEY #1 OF 9 were strong contenders.

I hope to see you all at the fundraiser for CASA DE LOS NINOS on Saturday, the SIXTH OF AUGUST, all day, from Ten AM until Five PM. There will be a bunch of talented artists providing free sketches, there will be a one dollar raffle to win action figures and graphic novels, there will be a silent auction where you can bid on original art and signed and rare collectibles, there will be sandwiches provided by Subway and a splendid time guaranteed for all.

Also, on Monday the fifteenth of August, from Noon until Three PM stop by and meet comedian, actor, filmmaker and graphic novelist TODD LIVINGSTON. Todd wrote or co-wrote Image graphic novels: THE BLACK FOREST, THE WICKED WEST, THE BLACK FOREST II and AMERICA, JR. and, at Devil’s Due he wrote SHEENA: DARK RISING, CHOPPER ZOMBIE and THE ODD SQUAD. And late in August comes his latest comic: STARRING SONYA DEVERAUX. Check out his Wiki entry to see the folks he did comedy with (like Adam Sandler) and the films he’s produced and the ones he’s acted in, and then stop by and meet him and get an autograph!

And finally I’d like to thank you all so much for your support. I greatly appreciate it; you’ve kept the lights on and kept my family fed for many years and, even more, you’ve introduced me to your families and trusted me with keeping your collections complete and your reading engaging and I am sincerely grateful and honored. Thank you all; see you soon.

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN (original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.
