April 2019 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The April Previews catalog arrives on Wednesday, March twenty seventh. I’ll do my best to get this to you as soon as possible. These solicitations are for comics and products that will begin shipping in June of 2019. I will try to point out the new and notable items that I think might interest you. If there’s anything that you’d like, please try to let me know by the twenty first of the month so I can be sure to have enough copies on hand to fill your requests and subscription orders. Don’t feel obligated to subscribe to a whole series; if you’d just like a copy of the first issue of a new series to try it out, let me know and I’ll be sure to put a copy aside for you. And if it’s past the twenty first there’s still a very good chance that I’ll be able to place your order and still get the books you want.

CALENDARS: Towards the end of the year I get a lot of requests for calendars, unfortunately I usually don’t have any because, for some strange reason they offer them now, in April and they arrive from July through September, before anyone’s thinking of them but there are ones featuring the art of OLIVIA, BORIS VALLEJO & JULIE BELL and ones with DEADPOOL, INVADER ZIM, LEGEND OF ZELDA, DOCTOR WHO, RICK & MORTY, WOMEN OF MARVEL, DC SUPERHERO GIRLS, BATMAN, SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN, DRAGONS and lots more, so, if you’re thinking ahead, look through the catalog when you stop by and I will be happy to order any that you’d like.

And that brings us to the end of the catalog (although there’s also sections of toys, games, clothing and action figures that you’re welcome to order, too) and, at this point each month I try to choose what will be the best offering this month. Among the contenders for April are: THUMBS #1 OF 5 from Image, the SNOW, GLASS, APPLES HC and THE BORGIAS TP from Dark Horse, the long awaited SUPERMAN: YEAR ONE #1 OF 3 from DC’s Black Label, USAGI YOJIMBO #1 from IDW, MARILYN MANOR #1 from IDW’s Black Crown imprint, the INCREDIBLE HULK: LAST CALL one shot and the IMMORTAL HULK, VOL. 1 HC from Marvel, the NEW WORLD OGN TP from Boom’s Archaia imprint, TRUST FALL #1 from Aftershock, the BTTM FDRS HC from Fantagraphics, Mark Waid’s IGNITED #1 from Humanoids, CRUCIFIED #1 from Scout Comics and TEST #1 from Vault Comics and, though I’m looking forward to all of these, my April Pick of the Month
is SONATA #1 from David (Bulletproof Coffin) Hine and Brian (Witchblade) Haberlin and illustrated by Haberlin and Geirrod (Spawn) Van Dyke, a steampunk style tale of two cultures clashing for control of their planet.

I hope that you’ve all had a chance to meet my friend and co-worker, Shield by now. He has organized all the shops’ back issues since he began here last June and he’ll be running the shop for two days in April so I can attend my daughters’ wedding (yes, after eighteen years I’m taking a couple days off).

And I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all of your orders, friendships and support over the years. Thirty six years I’ve been doing this now, and you’ve kept my lights on and kept a roof over the heads of my family and you’ve been kind and generous supporting the quarterly in-store benefits four time a year and I couldn’t ask for more and I can’t thank you all enough. We’ll be hosting another benefit for Casa de los Niños on Saturday, the fourth of May which is Star Wars Day and Free Comic Book Day and there will be eight artists here providing free sketches, their will be one dollar and five dollar raffles, there will be a Silent Auction to win original art and rare and signed collectibles and, of course there will be Free Comics so I hope to see you all, as I usually do, to support this wonderful and necessary non-profit organization.

Peace,

Charlie

Some of the codes and abbreviations that I use are: HC (hard cover), TP (trade paperback), SC (soft cover), GN (graphic novel), OGN(original graphic novel-not a reprint or collection), MMPB (mass market paperbacks), AF (action figure), T/C trading cards, T/S (tee shirt) and (to denote an excellent writer, creator or title deserving wider recognition in my humble opinion).

Besides the monthly Previews catalog there is also an ‘Adult Supplement’ which showcases the ‘adults only’ comics, books and videos. If you are interested in seeing what’s available (and you’re over eighteen) just send me an email and I will send you this month’s adult catalog with images, descriptions and prices.

If you’d prefer not to receive this in the future, please respond with UNSUBSCRIBE; I’m not trying to spam you! I only send this to subscription customers or those who request it. (I won’t be insulted at all if you’d like to discontinue. When I proofread it each month I know first-hand how tedious it can be. Thank you.)
